About the Role
The Department of Orthopedics at Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Physician Assistant to join a collaborative spine team in Rochester, NY. This role involves working closely with spine surgeons and a multidisciplinary care team to provide patient-centered care for individuals with complex spinal conditions. It offers an opportunity to develop specialized expertise in spine care through outpatient clinic visits, surgical first assist, and perioperative care.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete history and problem-focused examinations, establishing working diagnoses for non-operative and operative orthopedic conditions.
- Interpret x-rays and other diagnostic studies, ordering appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
- Develop treatment plans for optimal patient medical management, ordering consultations and interacting with other specialty medical teams.
- First assist orthopedic surgical cases to enhance efficiency, continuity, and quality of surgical care.
- Provide high-quality, patient-focused perioperative care for orthopedic surgery patients.
- Provide bedside treatments such as joint injections.
- Respond to and manage acute care needs of hospitalized orthopedic patients.
- Coordinate and communicate all aspects of patient care to patient, family, and healthcare team.
- Educate patients to become active participants in their healthcare and provide patient education materials.
- Prescribe medication, write orders, perform procedures, and respond to emergency and/or acute condition changes.
- Thoroughly and concisely document all patient encounters, progress notes, orders, prescriptions, test results, and patient instructions.
- Actively contribute to quality reporting metrics and participate in Grand Rounds, APP Council Meetings, unit meetings, and M&M presentations.
- Demonstrate professional practice behavior, including preceptor/mentoring and educating students, nursing staff, graduate and novice physician assistants, and nurse practitioners.
