About the Role
St. Clare of Assisi–St. Francis Xavier School seeks a dedicated educator to teach fifth-grade homeroom and science for Grades 5–8. The role involves creating a supportive classroom, delivering standards-aligned science instruction, and fostering students' scientific knowledge and curiosity.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the fifth-grade homeroom teacher, supporting students' academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Teach science to students in Grades 5–8.
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons.
- Incorporate hands-on investigations, laboratory activities, scientific inquiry, and real-world applications.
- Use assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction.
- Provide appropriate scaffolds and differentiation for students with varying learning needs, including multilingual learners.
- Maintain clear classroom routines and high expectations for learning and behavior.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families.
- Collaborate with colleagues, school leadership, and student-support personnel.
- Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and the faith life of the school.
- Support the Catholic identity, values, and mission of the school.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- New York State teacher certification preferred.
- Experience teaching upper-elementary or middle-school students preferred.
- Strong classroom-management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to design engaging lessons for students with diverse academic and language needs.
- Commitment to academic excellence, student well-being, professional collaboration, and Catholic education.
- Warm but firm, dependable, well-organized, and able to build positive relationships with students and families.
- Holds high expectations, values teamwork, and will become an active and supportive member of the school community.
