About the Role
This role is responsible for developing software and creating system integrations to add value for staff and members. You will utilize vendor SDKs, APIs, and internal code repositories to build and enhance applications, improving member and staff experience. Additionally, you will create and maintain tooling for efficient system updates and assist in maintaining the software development lifecycle framework and training materials.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring software meets requirements for usability, quality, security, scalability, extensibility, and sustainability.
- Creating and supporting custom-built applications and integrations.
- Participating in project teams to develop software solutions using internal and cloud-based systems.
- Collaborating with Business Analysts to create high-level product specifications, focusing on system integration, feasibility, and long-term cost of ownership.
- Designing and developing common components, services, and frameworks for the Development Team.
- Working closely with cross-functional application teams to develop POCs and solutions.
- Participating in the development, deployment, and maintenance of production applications.
- Partnering with the Software Engineering Manager and CIO to develop product roadmaps for delivery channel platforms.
- Collaborating with product owners and the project management team to ensure correct work prioritization.
- Creating and executing a plan to deliver working software iteratively and continuously.
- Utilizing best practices, methodologies, and coding standards to provide maximum value to members and staff.
- Providing insight and expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, and design patterns, including technical development mentorship.
- Maintaining a software architecture to support both immediate and long-term needs.
Requirements
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge and skills in developing software utilizing current programming languages, design patterns, methodologies, and platforms.
- Maintains experience and proven ability to participate in a full stack development team.
- Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, remove obstacles, implement effective outcomes, and provide required documentation.
- Exhibits a high level of interpersonal, verbal communication, and empathy to relate to others at their systems knowledge level.
- Maintains a self-motivated interest in the job.

- Able to bend, sit, and stand for primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
- Capable of climbing/descending stairs in an emergency.
- Normal range of vision and hearing abilities required.
- Able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals, keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators.
- Able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary.
- Able to work extended hours or travel offsite whenever required or requested by management.
- Capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
- Able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either independently or as part of a team.
- Able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions.

- Creating and implementing CI/CD pipelines
- Cloud technologies and services in Azure DevOps/GitHub
- Python development (Jinja templating, Flask, Django, etc.)
- Message brokers such as Apache Kafka/RabbitMQ
- Databases such as PostgreSQL
- Redis caching and data store solutions
- Deployment/container orchestration using Kubernetes and Helm
- Working knowledge of AI coding agents such as Claude Code
- gRPC and REST API design and implementation
- Familiarity with OWASP Top 10 security principles
- Authentication/authorization protocols including OIDC and OAuth2
- Experience with the ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) for logging and observability
