About the Role

Summer Accounting Student positions offer experience aligned with the foundational requirements for the CPA designation. Students will work towards developing technical and enabling competencies for the CPA designation through exposure to areas such as audit and assurance, financial reporting, management accounting, finance, and strategy and governance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct reviews of registered firms and regulated entities to assess compliance with Ontario securities laws.
• Conduct focused reviews of registered firms’ compliance with internal policies and procedures.
• Assist with the preparation of formal reports detailing non-compliance and work with firms to determine corrective actions.
• Complete continuous disclosure reviews of public company filings.
• Review and analyze records filed by public companies, including financial reports.
• Perform research on industry-wide trends and patterns.
• Review records related to complex transactions and assist in assessing them.
• Apply forensic accounting techniques to review and analyze financial and non-financial evidence.
• Prepare materials for use in OSC proceedings.
• Support the preparation and review of various sections of the OSC’s annual report, including MD&A, Financial Statements and Note Disclosures.
• Support the completion of month-end and quarter-end financial close procedures.
• Update process documentation for standard operating procedures and controls activities.

Requirements

• Completed second year or higher of a university degree in Commerce or Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting.
• Interest in pursuing a CPA designation.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple demands on time.
• Strong communication skills to seek out additional information and adapt style to suit audience/client.
• Ability to build and foster strong relationships.
• Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn.
• A cover letter stating interest in working for the OSC, including file number and position title.
• A resume.
• A copy of undergraduate transcripts.
