About the Role
The Corporate Counsel III is responsible for providing high-quality legal advice, policy, and direction to the EMEA Enterprise business, with a focus on commercial contracts and regulatory work. This role is critical for working seamlessly across time zones with global commercial, legal, and compliance teams, dedicating the majority of time to merchant risk analysis, contract drafting and negotiations, and providing legal advice.
Responsibilities
- Provide high quality, business-focused legal support to a growing global business through a strong understanding of legal requirements and commercial implications.
- Draft and negotiate commercial contracts, liaising with customers, suppliers, and senior management regarding negotiations, transaction structuring, and contributing to debates and implementing solutions outside the legal remit.
- Review and advise on the legal status of prospective merchants, particularly those in regulated industries.
- Ensure continual improvements to the capabilities of the in-house legal function, including in legal technologies.
- Drive consistency of approach across the company regarding appetite, policy standards, and governance.
- Provide legal education to the business through bespoke training.
- Manage and engage with external counsel, primarily for regulatory matters.
Requirements
- Proven ability to understand and provide incisive, reliable, and commercial legal advice and solutions on complex business issues.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills and professionalism.
- Proven ability to build and maintain business relationships and perform stakeholder management.
- Interest in payments services regulation and ability to apply new or adapting laws to complex commercial structures and products.
- Proven ability to understand and apply various laws and regulations across the globe to perform merchant risk analysis.
- Interest in the payments and financial services industry.
- Broad-ranging corporate and commercial experience.
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of core legal concepts, particularly in contract law, with strong drafting skills.
