About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to build and lead one of the most critical capabilities in the bank. As Head of Data & Intelligence - Protect: Fraud & Financial Crime, you'll shape how Westpac anticipates, detects and responds to fraud, scams and financial crime threats across the Group. You'll create the strategic intelligence capability that helps keep customers, people, and the business safe by leading the vision, strategy, and execution of enterprise-wide intelligence, detection, and analytics capabilities. This highly visible leadership role involves partnering with senior executives to influence investment decisions, shape enterprise protection strategy, and deliver measurable improvements in fraud and financial crime resilience, championing a prevention-first mindset.
Responsibilities
- Shape how Westpac anticipates, detects, and responds to fraud, scams, and financial crime threats.
- Create the strategic intelligence capability to keep customers, people, and the business safe.
- Lead the vision, strategy, and execution of enterprise-wide intelligence, detection, and analytics capabilities.
- Provide early warning of threats, accelerate decision-making, and drive real-world risk disruption.
- Connect signals, eliminate blind spots, and transform complex data into actionable intelligence.
- Partner with senior executives to influence investment decisions and shape enterprise protection strategy.
- Deliver measurable improvements in fraud and financial crime resilience.
- Champion a prevention-first mindset to actively stop threats before they happen.
Requirements
- Extensive executive leadership experience building and leading enterprise-scale data, intelligence, analytics, or financial crime capabilities.
- Demonstrated success developing intelligence-led strategies that improve fraud, scam, and financial crime prevention, detection, and disruption outcomes.
- Deep understanding of fraud, financial crime, cyber, and risk ecosystems, with the ability to connect signals across multiple domains to generate actionable insights.
- Strong experience leveraging advanced analytics, AI, and emerging technologies to improve detection quality, speed of response, and operational effectiveness.
- Proven ability to influence and align senior stakeholders across complex organizations, often without direct authority.
- Experience operating within highly regulated environments with strong governance, risk, privacy, and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and decision-making capability, with the ability to translate complex threat landscapes into clear business priorities.
- A track record of building high-performing teams and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and responsible AI adoption.
