About the Role
The University of Rochester is seeking a skilled tradesperson to install, test, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of air conditioning, controls, and refrigeration systems. This role involves performing required preventive maintenance and may include guiding and training lower-classified personnel.
Responsibilities
- Installs, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs air conditioning, controls, and refrigeration systems.
- Maintains air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including absorption, centrifugal, and compressor units.
- Performs required preventive maintenance on installed equipment.
- Inspects and examines system components to detect mechanical or electrical failures.
- Disassembles equipment to assess condition and make necessary repairs or replacements.
- Checks and adjusts electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls specific to air conditioning and refrigeration.
- Pumps down and charges units with appropriate refrigerants.
- Performs equipment installation according to engineer outlines, blueprints, and specifications.
- Tests and balances air and chilled/hot water systems.
- Keeps records and makes reports of daily work, service calls, and equipment condition.
- Recommends modifications for system optimization.
- Reviews controls and control systems for proper operation and efficiency.
- Adheres to all University, Departmental, and OSHA safety policies and practices.
- Performs other related duties, including tool maintenance.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4-6 years of experience as a building heating, ventilating, cooling, and controls mechanic.
- Ability to read and write the English language.
- Environmental Protection Agency Refrigerant Certification required.
