About the Role
As Director of Engineering, you will own the technical direction and standards for Tide’s frontend, focusing on architectural health, performance, and maintainability. You will advocate for a frontend stack aligned with commercial goals and lead a team of Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers to solve complex technical challenges.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Staff Engineers to drive a pragmatic frontend strategy.
- Take a hands-on approach to identifying and resolving bottlenecks in large-scale monorepo workflows.
- Advocate for technical solutions that align with Tide’s business goals.
- Evaluate the current stack and workforce model to maximize engineering leverage.
- Advocate for systems providing global stakeholders full visibility into the product experience.
- Be responsible for the delivery of a modern Release Engineering model.
- Ensure teams implement a comprehensive automation strategy for high-frequency, predictable deployment cycles.
- Provide thought leadership on leveraging AI and agentic solutions within the client-side experience.
- Explore how AI can optimize frontend performance, automate routine interactions, and drive personalized member experiences.
Requirements
- Experience leading significant engineering organizations.
- Comfort navigating the complexities of high-scale frontend architecture.
- Ability to thoughtfully debate technical trade-offs to reach the best outcome for the business.
- Deep understanding of frontend best practices, focusing on the best outcome for the business.
- Track record of improving efficiency and modernizing mobile release cycles.
- Knowledge of navigating technical and organizational trade-offs during transitions.
- Ability to see the connection between technical foundations and team velocity.
- Focus on system-level improvements that help product teams move faster.
- Understanding that technical strategy must serve business goals.
- Comfort making and communicating trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
