About the Role
Ariel Investments is seeking a buy-side research analyst with a proven track record of strong investment performance within their specialty, covering companies globally. The role requires solid fundamental research capabilities, advanced financial modelling skills, clear communication of their investment thesis and accountability for recommendations. A background in value investing is important. Additionally, we are seeking a candidate with a strong record of academic and professional excellence, natural curiosity, and a willingness to engage in thoughtful debates within a team-based decision-making environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct bottom-up fundamental stock selection, driven by proprietary research.
- Fully integrate into the investment process and identify and analyze equity securities that align with investment goals.
- Assess investment recommendations relative to your sector.
- Work closely with fellow analysts, portfolio managers and the CIO.
- Adhere to all compliance policies and procedures of the various Ariel entities.
- Work together with colleagues to resolve compliance issues.
Requirements
- At least 7+ years of relevant work experience (sell side research, buy side research, investment banking, consulting, corporate strategy, tech engineering).
- At least 5 years of buy-side investment experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills to articulate an investment thesis.
- Ability to interact with senior management of companies in coverage area.
- Strong financial modeling skills.
- Detail orientation and the ability to consume, digest and synthesize a large amount of information from a variety of sources and convert them into proprietary, actionable insights in a timely fashion.
- Ability to identify factors such as competitive advantage, strategic inflection points or disruptive developments.
- Ability to synthesize and articulate fundamental characteristics both qualitatively in a thesis write-up and quantitatively in a financial/valuation model.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Proficient in Bloomberg.
- Proficient in Visible Alpha (preferred).
- Proficient in S&P Cap IQ (preferred).

- $140,000 - $185,000
