About the Role
This role involves working closely with participants and their support teams to manage self-directed budgets and plans, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting participant independence.
Responsibilities
- Works in close collaboration with the Participant, his/her Circle of Support, Fiscal Intermediary, Care Manager, Support Staff, Voluntary Providers, and others to execute the Self-Directed Budget.
- Maintains professional communication with all team members and replies promptly.
- Attends 2 mandatory meetings per Participant, per budget year, and additional meetings as needed.
- Develops the Participant’s budget reflecting his or her wants and needs in a timely manner, making changes as requested by the Participant.
- Assists the Participant to develop a comprehensive Self-Direction Plan consistent with his/her Life Plan.
- Provides education and training to the Self-Directed Participant and their planning team in implementing the Self-Direction Plan, according to Medicaid and New York State standards and regulations.
- Monitors the expenditure report provided by the Fiscal Intermediary monthly to ensure spending does not exceed the allocated budget.
- Educates and trains each Participant to the highest degree possible about their Self-Direction Plan.
- Encourages Participants to assume as much responsibility as possible for their services.
- Assists Participants with submitting documentation timely.
- Follows all regulations and agency policies and procedures regarding incident reporting.
- Completes initial broker training and maintains certification annually.
- Completes 12 hours of required training per year.
- Attends any other trainings as requested by the Self-Direction Manager.
- Attends required Broker Institute Training to receive certification in Brokerage.
- Submits to OPWDD for annual recertification in a timely manner.
- Tracks individualized training records and retains them as needed.
- Attends the Participant’s Life Plan reviews and assists Participants in reviewing and updating their Life Plan as requested.
- Follows all regulations regarding paperwork review, completion, and distribution.
- Ensures that the Life Plan and Staff Action Plan directly relate to the Participant’s needs.
- Ensures appropriate safeguards are in place.
- Ensures all deadlines are met in a timely manner.
- Ensures Life Plan and Staff Action Plans are reviewed at a minimum, twice annually.
- Works closely with the Participant and team to ensure HCBS Waiver status is maintained.
- Works in collaboration with Self-Directed Participant’s Fiscal Intermediary of choice.
- Establishes with outside Fiscal Intermediary agencies as needed.
- Attends required agency trainings as requested by outside Fiscal Intermediaries.
- Provides required Broker Trainings to Fiscal Intermediary for their records.
- Maintains a professional relationship and positive communication.
- Maintains Caseload and Broker billable hours as outlined by Self-Direction Manager.
- Tracks billable hours in electronic software to ensure required monthly billable hours are met.
- Processes broker billing in a timely manner.
- Submits broker billing according to Fiscal Intermediaries preference.
- Ensures Fiscal Intermediaries process payment by practicing good communication and timely submission.
- Creates billable entries in Citizen Advocates electronic software.

Experience Level
- One year experience in a Human Service position
Education Level
- Associate’s Degree in Human Services or Business/Accounting
Salary/Compensations
- $17.00 - $22.00 Hourly
