About the Role

The primary function of the occupational therapist is evaluation, assessment, and treatment of functional performances specific to a patient’s life roles when disrupted by physical injury, illness, or congenital impairment. This is accomplished through tests and measurements, establishment of treatment goals, and therapeutic intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations for inpatients and outpatients of all ages according to clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Provide educational information to patients and families regarding their condition/treatment.
  • Provide therapy for patients of all ages consistent with clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Monitor and modify treatment plans and goals based on patient response.
  • Monitor equipment use and safety.
  • Record patient charges.
  • Maintain appropriate, timely documentation including evaluation reports, daily progress notes, progress updates, and discharge summaries.
  • Supervise OTA students, aides, and volunteers as delegated.
  • Participate in program planning and development for the department, interdisciplinary promotional activities, and orientation of new staff.
  • Train or mentor new and existing staff in daily operations or special techniques for patient care.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • New York State license in Occupational Therapy
  • NBCOT Certification as an Occupational Therapist
  • Current CPR
