About the Role

The Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) provides comprehensive counseling to alcohol/substance dependent patients within an interdisciplinary treatment team. Responsibilities include patient assessment, developing individualized treatment plans, evaluating treatment effectiveness, and facilitating connections to self-help programs. The role also involves acting as a liaison with external agencies and between patients, families, and the hospital.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive counseling to alcohol/substance dependent patients.
Perform complete assessments of each patient.
Identify patient areas of need.
Develop individualized treatment plans.
Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
Help patients focus on maintaining total abstinence.
Facilitate strong connections to 12 Step self-help programs.
Act as a liaison with outside alcohol/substance abuse related agencies.
Serve as a treatment care coordinator for patients.

Requirements

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational, writing and analytical skills.
CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) certification.
Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association.
Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
Must live within a commutable distance to NYP.
Employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
