About the Role

The Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) provides comprehensive counseling to alcohol/substance dependent patients within an interdisciplinary treatment team. Responsibilities include patient assessment, developing individualized treatment plans, evaluating treatment effectiveness, and facilitating connections to self-help programs. The role also involves acting as a liaison with external agencies and between patients, families, and the hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive counseling to alcohol/substance dependent patients.
  • Perform complete assessments of each patient.
  • Identify patient areas of need.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Help patients focus on maintaining total abstinence.
  • Facilitate strong connections to 12 Step self-help programs.
  • Act as a liaison with outside alcohol/substance abuse related agencies.
  • Serve as a treatment care coordinator for patients.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, writing and analytical skills.
  • CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to NYP.
  • Employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
