About the Role
This role is a key part of embedding KPMG's Three Lines of Defence model, supporting the design, implementation, and oversight of the compliance framework, with a focus on end-to-end compliance, Anti-Money Laundering/Counter Terrorism Finance (AML/CTF), Australian Financial Services Licensing (AFSL) obligations, and broader regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Provide second line oversight and constructive challenge across business activities to assess compliance with regulatory obligations.
- Support the implementation and continuous enhancement of the compliance framework, policies, controls, and procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to Line 1 teams on complex KYC, customer due diligence (CDD), and client onboarding matters.
- Review and challenge client risk assessments, CDD outcomes, and onboarding decisions to ensure compliance with applicable AML/CTF obligations.
- Monitor adherence to AFSL obligations and provide guidance to the business on regulatory requirements and licence conditions.
- Provide Line 2 oversight of AML/CTF obligations, including risk assessments, control design and testing, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Advise and support Line 1 teams to uplift AFSL and AML/CTF capability and control effectiveness, while maintaining appropriate Line 2 independence.
- Oversee compliance monitoring, assurance activities, breach and incident management, and emerging regulatory issues, including escalation where required.
- Conduct compliance reviews and thematic assessments across regulatory risk areas.
- Deliver compliance advice, guidance, and training to support awareness and understanding of regulatory obligations.
- Support engagement with ASIC, AUSTRAC, AFCA, and other regulators, including regulatory enquiries, reviews, and submissions.
- Build strong relationships with Line 1 and Divisional Risk and other teams to uplift obligations awareness and collaboration.
Requirements
- 4–5 years’ experience in a compliance or risk role within financial services.
- Strong understanding of financial crime risk, including AML/CTF obligations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of interpreting corporate legal structures and complex ownership arrangements to meet AML/CTF obligations.
- Practical experience and solid knowledge of the Corporations Act and relevant ASIC Regulatory Guides.
- Working knowledge of AFSL regulatory requirements and ASIC expectations.
- Experience with ASIC, AUSTRAC, and AFCA reporting and submissions.
- Experience in second line (Line 2) compliance or risk functions.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical, business-aligned controls and guidance.
- Experience in compliance monitoring, assurance, and risk assessments.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and engage confidently at Board level.
- Experience designing and delivering compliance or regulatory training.
- Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a proactive, adaptable mindset in a complex regulatory environment.
- Relevant qualifications in law, finance, risk, or a related discipline.
