About the Role
BDO's Risk Advisory team consults to publicly listed and government organisations. This role specialises in NSW public sector clients, offering the opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio including education, transport, and integrity agencies. As a Senior Consultant, you will collaborate with Partners and Senior Management to deliver internal audits, management reviews, and provide client advice, gaining valuable experience through varied work, autonomy, client contact, and direct Partner interaction.
Responsibilities
- Deliver internal audits, business risk assurance, and business process improvement projects using BDO's methodologies.
- Write reports and communicate findings to clients.
- Recommend policy, procedural, process, system, and control improvements.
- Assist in preparing proposals and scoping documents.
- Prepare reports for completed projects.
- Assist in developing new methodologies and service offerings.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on work scheduling.
- Contribute to the development of junior staff through mentoring.
- Maintain client relationships.
- Work with internal stakeholders to create future business opportunities.
Requirements
- Experience in internal audit and/or risk management engagements for public sector clients (NSW and broader state and federal government).
- 2+ years of experience in internal audit, related risk management, or a similar role.
- An accounting or business-related degree.
- Working knowledge and understanding of basic internal audit and risk management practices and standards (IIA and ISO31000).
- Knowledge and experience in undertaking internal audits, risk assessments, and risk management framework reviews.
- Experience in conducting internal audits of basic financial processes and controls.
- Experience in conducting internal audits of operational processes.
- Exposure to Enterprise Resource Management systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, TechOne).
