About the Role

The Director of Institutional Giving is responsible for the day-to-day operations of The Door's Institutional Giving program. This role serves as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of foundation, corporate, and government funders, generating significant annual revenue for The Door and Broome Street Academy. The ideal candidate is an experienced people manager, accomplished fundraiser, exceptional writer and editor, and collaborative leader.

Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day operations of the Institutional Giving team, including coaching and developing three Grant Managers.
Oversee team workflow and the institutional fundraising calendar, ensuring proposals, reports, and other deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
Draft, review, and edit grant proposals, reports, letters of inquiry, budgets, and donor communications.
Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 30–40 private and public institutional funders.
Coordinate funder meetings, site visits, and other engagement opportunities.
Identify prospective funding opportunities and develop cultivation strategies.
Support annual institutional revenue planning, pipeline management, and fundraising forecasting.
Oversee grant administration activities, including budget development, financial reporting, and grant tracking.
Ensure institutional funding is managed in accordance with funder requirements and reporting deadlines.
Contribute to building a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
Support initiatives, campaigns, and special projects across the advancement team.
Stay informed about philanthropic trends and emerging funding opportunities.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible institutional fundraising experience, including foundation, corporate, and government grants.
Minimum of 2–3 years of staff supervision and team leadership experience.
Demonstrated success managing institutional fundraising portfolios and achieving revenue goals.
Experience developing grant budgets and collaborating with Finance on financial reporting and grant management.
Outstanding writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships across departments and with external partners.
Experience using Raiser's Edge or comparable donor database preferred.
