About the Role
The primary role of a Patient Services Technician II is to use the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to enter patient demographics, billing information, and test orders. This role also involves executing venipuncture procedures for blood specimen procurement and performing essential functions to maintain specimen integrity for testing.
Responsibilities
- Enter patient demographics, billing information, client information, and test orders into the LIS, ensuring accuracy for procurement, processing, testing, reporting, compliance, and billing.
- Manually confirm patient identity and document essential information for specimen procurement, processing, and testing.
- Perform venipuncture, including heel stick and finger stick techniques, for blood specimen procurement.
- Maintain specimen integrity for testing.
- Greet and assist customers by providing general information.
- Collaborate with the Client Service Representative on orders and STAT requests.
- Communicate with clients for necessary information exchange to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and discard expired materials.
- Train new employees or staff on phlebotomy procedures and report trainee progress.
- Accurately register nursing home or outpatients in the LIS and process their specimens promptly.
- Assist supervisors and managers with special assignments and projects.
- Perform duties in compliance with company policies and procedures, meeting corporate, state, federal, OSHA, and customer specifications.
