About the Role
The Philanthropy Officer cultivates strategies and secures donor gifts to support Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas’ (PPGT) goals. This position manages and executes a comprehensive fundraising program and donor portfolio, with revenue accountability for mid-level donors, special campaigns, fundraising events, and planned giving. The role requires strong skills in strategy, execution, and relationship management, partnering regularly with senior leadership, Board members, and donors.
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements a comprehensive annual development strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Executes and manages comprehensive fundraising program for assigned area of responsibility including major and mid-level gifts, special campaigns, grants, and events.
- Partners with senior leadership to develop measurable development revenue goals, track performance metrics, and adjust strategies to meet or exceed goals.
- Manages a portfolio of donors and prospects through stewardship and solicitations, including mid to major level gifts and event sponsorships.
- Supports management and execution of regional fundraising events and serves as lead liaison for event volunteer leadership.
- Develops and implements a coordinated, strategic, year-round fundraising plan and timetable.
- Manages the regional community board, including recruitment, onboarding, planning, and engagement.
- Manages major gift and planned giving solicitations and cultivation of donors.
- Enhances community visibility, establishes donor relations, and builds relationships.
- Manages the mentoring of solicitors within the designated region.
- Develops and implements a plan to strategically build and maintain the donor base.
- Engages in systematic research on prospective donors, foundations, and corporations.
- Maintains and expands the database of prospective, current, and past donors.
- Builds effective and trustworthy relationships with major donors, board members, foundation trustees, staff, and community leaders.
- Stays current on changing trends in philanthropy and adjusts programs and strategies as needed.
- Assures compliance with Board of Director’s governance policies on development and standards established by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
- Ensures fundraising materials and communications maintain high standards of integrity and honesty.
- Manages volunteer leadership committees that support the fundraising plan and development initiatives.
- Produces timely and accurate reports as requested.
- Represents the organization at meetings, community events, conferences, and fundraising events.
- Access to patient protected health information (PHI) is restricted only to purposes specific to job duties.
- Ensures productivity expectations, customer service, and compliance standards are maintained.
- Abides by the organization’s mission in performing job duties.
- Demonstrates an understanding and commitment to PPGT’s culture of quality, safety, and risk awareness.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree + 2 years of relevant exempt experience or Associate’s degree + 4 years of relevant exempt experience or H/S diploma or equivalent + 6 years of relevant exempt experience.
- Relevant exempt experience includes fundraising, development, sales, marketing, event management, or related fields.
- Must have some exempt fundraising or development experience.
- Must have excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet.
- Must have the willingness and ability to adapt to change including advances or new technology.
- Must have excellent customer service skills and be committed to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to travel as required.
- Ability to effectively perform a variety of development functions including annual campaigns, major gifts, events, planned giving, and special campaigns.
- Recognized excellence in interpersonal and relationship-building skills, project management skills; ability to motivate and work collaboratively with staff throughout the organization, and effect change.
- Demonstrated appreciation for the level of detail, discretion, and good judgment necessary for solicitation and cultivation of donors and supporters.
