About the Role
The Senior Medical Director oversees the accuracy and relevance of content for healthcare clients and plays a central role in developing marketing strategies and tactics for healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Lead high-profile and scientifically complex therapeutic areas to shape products and provide insights for brand strategy and programming.
- Serve as the therapeutic expert for assigned brands, ensuring the quality, scientific, and medical accuracy of content.
- Quickly learn and understand complex disease mechanisms, pathways, trial design, and statistical analyses, translating and disseminating this information.
- Perform medical writing and summarize medical data and scientific concepts to support message development for HCP and DTC audiences.
- Educate creative, marketing, planning, innovations, and business strategy & analysis teams about client products and diseases.
- Support new business pitch content and strategies, including presenting agency's professional marketing insights.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of key competitors, including their strengths, weaknesses, positioning, and performance.
- Proactively and independently research products and therapeutic categories, staying updated on relevant medical literature.
- Utilize proficiency in medical strategy initiatives, including competitive set analysis, defining clinical value proposition, and informing brand positioning.
- Generate actionable insights and perspectives on disease-related topics, treatment categories, and healthcare professional attitudes and behaviors.
- Supervise medical writers on assigned accounts.
Requirements
- Doctoral level (PharmD, PhD) degree in healthcare; clinical experience beyond graduate training preferred.
- At least 5-7 years of healthcare agency experience or pharmaceutical, biotech, or device company experience.
- Familiarity with US pharmaceutical marketing regulations.
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry medical-legal review processes.
- Teaching and mentoring experience.
- Ability to read and interpret the medical literature.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with AI tools preferred.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive and demonstrating initiative to learn and lead projects.
- Ability to scale from detail-oriented tasks to higher-level strategic tasks.
- HIV or infectious disease healthcare advertising experience is preferred.
- Collaborative, professional, and strong communication skills preferred.
