About the Role

Skyline Windows is seeking experienced window mechanics to perform full window and terrace door removals and installations on occupied, landmark, and active construction sites. Candidates should be comfortable reading shop drawings, using laser levels for benchmarks, and working safely at elevation. Lead Mechanic candidates will also be responsible for running a crew, managing schedules, and serving as the on-site point of contact.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full window and terrace door removals, including brick-to-brick rip-outs.
  • Install replacement and new-construction units such as double hung, casement, slider, tilt-and-turn, window wall, receptors, and terrace doors.
  • Level, shim, plumb, and square openings to tolerance and anchor per approved details.
  • Set up and shoot benchmarks and control lines with a laser level, transferring lines floor to floor and verifying against drawings.
  • Glaze windows and install locks and hardware on window and door frames.
  • Cut and fit capping, angles, tubes, panels, panning, and other extrusions, completing panning trim.
  • Caulk and silicone frames, perimeters, and joints to ensure a clean, finished, watertight condition.
  • Cap and trim out openings for presentable finished work.
  • Perform adjustments, troubleshooting, and repairs, correcting punch-list and warranty items.
  • Read and work from approved shop drawings, elevations, and installation details, identifying discrepancies.
  • Plan the next day’s work to ensure productive starts.
  • Complete all orders and daily reports accurately and on time.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with OSHA and NYC DOB standards, remaining alert to unsafe conditions.
  • Use fall protection, staging, and PPE when working at elevation.
  • Load and unload materials from the truck onto the work site.
  • Keep company tools in good working order.
  • Protect the customer’s space and ensure cleanup inside and outside of job locations.
  • Represent Skyline professionally with tenants, building staff, GCs, and ownership.
  • Run a crew of 2–6 mechanics, assigning work and holding the daily production schedule (Lead Mechanic).
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for supervisors, general contractors, building staff, and ownership (Lead Mechanic).
  • Verify openings against approved drawings before the crew starts, flagging discrepancies (Lead Mechanic).
  • Establish benchmarks and control lines and confirm the crew is working to them (Lead Mechanic).
  • Coordinate material deliveries, hoisting, and staging (Lead Mechanic).
  • Enforce safety on the crew and hold quality on rip-out, install, and caulking (Lead Mechanic).
  • Train and develop less experienced mechanics (Lead Mechanic).

Requirements

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience removing and installing windows, including window wall, receptors, retrofit, and replacement work.
  • Familiarity with commercial and residential window types and their hardware systems.
  • Proven caulking and weatherproofing ability.
  • Ability to read shop drawings and detailed work orders.
  • Experience setting benchmarks and layout with a laser level.
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools for rip-out.
  • Strong safety awareness and a clean work ethic.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a partner and multiple crews.
  • Professional, courteous, and customer-service oriented demeanor.
  • Good communication skills to raise problems and ask questions early.
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 75 lbs, multiple times daily.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to bend and squat on a consistent daily basis.
  • Ability to walk stairs and ramps multiple times daily.
  • Ability to work on an open construction site, which may include high elevation.
  • Must be able to work in all five boroughs.

Salary/Compensations

  • $38.00 - $42.00 Hourly
