About the Role
Skyline Windows is seeking experienced window mechanics to perform full window and terrace door removals and installations. This role involves working on occupied, landmark, and active construction sites, requiring comfort with reading shop drawings, using laser levels for benchmarks, and working safely at elevation. Lead Mechanic positions also require crew leadership, schedule management, and acting as the on-site point of contact.
Responsibilities
- Perform full window and terrace door removals, including brick-to-brick rip-outs.
- Install replacement and new-construction units such as double hung, casement, slider, tilt-and-turn, window wall, receptors, and terrace doors.
- Level, shim, plumb, and square openings, and anchor per approved details.
- Set up and shoot benchmarks and control lines with a laser level.
- Glaze windows and install locks and hardware.
- Cut and fit capping, angles, tubes, panels, panning, and other extrusions.
- Caulk and silicone frames, perimeters, and joints to ensure a watertight condition.
- Cap and trim out openings for a presentable finish.
- Perform adjustments, troubleshooting, and repairs, including punch-list and warranty items.
- Read and work from approved shop drawings, elevations, and installation details.
- Plan daily work to ensure productive crew starts.
- Complete all orders and daily reports accurately and on time.
- Adhere to OSHA and NYC DOB standards, and stop work when unsafe conditions are identified.
- Properly use fall protection, staging, and PPE when working at elevation.
- Load and unload materials.
- Maintain company tools in good working order.
- Clean job sites, both inside and outside.
- Represent Skyline professionally with tenants, building staff, GCs, and ownership.
- Run a crew of 2–6 mechanics, assign work, and hold the daily production schedule (Lead Mechanic).
- Serve as the on-site point of contact for supervisors, contractors, and ownership (Lead Mechanic).
- Walk and verify openings against approved drawings before the crew starts (Lead Mechanic).
- Own layout, establish benchmarks, and confirm the crew is working to them (Lead Mechanic).
- Coordinate material deliveries, hoisting, and staging (Lead Mechanic).
- Enforce safety and quality standards on the crew (Lead Mechanic).
- Train and develop less experienced mechanics (Lead Mechanic).
Requirements
- Demonstrated hands-on experience removing and installing windows, including window wall, receptors, retrofit, and replacement work.
- Familiarity with commercial and residential window types and their hardware systems.
- Proven caulking and weatherproofing ability.
- Ability to read shop drawings and detailed work orders.
- Experience setting benchmarks and layout with a laser level.
- Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Strong safety awareness and a clean work ethic.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a partner and multiple crews.
- Professional, courteous, and customer-service oriented demeanor.
- Good communication skills.
- Must be able to work in all five boroughs.

Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED required
- NYC DOB 40-Hour Site Safety Training (SST) card required
- 62-Hour SST Supervisor card required for Lead Mechanics
- Valid OSHA safety training cards required
Salary/Compensations
- $38.00 - $42.00 Hourly
- Competitive compensation based upon a 37.5 hour work week with OT as available
