About the Role
The Janitor maintains cleanliness levels in campus facilities, supporting an environment conducive to teaching, learning, and living. This role also supports college programming through event set-ups, break downs, and moves.
Responsibilities
- Performs general cleaning of restrooms, bathrooms, public spaces, classrooms, offices, and locker/shower rooms.
- Cleans student rooms annually.
- Performs floor care tasks including vacuuming, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet shampooing.
- Operates and performs maintenance on floor care equipment.
- Uses light and heavy commercial floor machines and attachments.
- Performs set-ups and break downs for college events.
- Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment.
- Collects trash and recyclable materials.
- Shovels snow from steps and walks, including during inclement weather closures.
- Changes light bulbs, excluding specialized conditions.
- Inspects fire extinguishers monthly.
- Works overtime, including after-hour and weekend emergencies, assigned according to seniority.
Requirements
- One year of experience in facilities maintenance and care in a similar environment.
- Ability to move, position, transport, and place objects up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work on and ascend/descend ladders and use a Genie lift.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license for at least 2 years.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (understanding, speaking, reading, writing).
- Willingness to work overtime as available.
