About the Role
Okta is building the trusted, neutral infrastructure to enable organizations to safely embrace AI. This role on the AI Acceleration Team involves solving core authorization challenges and designing secure, phishing-resistant access for both people and AI agents. It's an opportunity to do career-defining, 0-to-1 work shaping the future of identity and AI.
Responsibilities
- Solve core authorization challenges, defining how companies authorize agent actions and enforcing least privilege.
- Design secure access by building phishing-resistant authentication and authorization for people and agents.
- Shape the product by bringing a product mindset to understand customer needs and build toward desired outcomes.
- Own the quality bar, acting as the voice for product and quality judgment.
- Drive technical architecture decisions for scalable distributed systems and complex API integrations.
- Modernize development by advancing AI usage across the design, review, and shipping lifecycle.
- Coach and multiply by raising the technical bar of the team and building judgment in others.
- Improve engineering excellence by spotting and prioritizing tech debt, driving improvements in CI/CD, observability, documentation, reliability, and support.
- Stay customer-aware by building with a clear line to the customer problem and the outcome being solved.
Requirements
- Self-starter mentality with the ability to spot what matters and drive work autonomously.
- Advanced AI tool proficiency for meaningful application across the software development lifecycle.
- Proven experience defining scalable backend architectures and integrating complex APIs.
- Solid grasp of web authentication and authorization fundamentals.
- Deep expertise in building reliable, secure, enterprise-grade software in Java or another type-safe language.
- High proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript with fullstack range, including shipping robust frontends.
- Strong cloud architecture fundamentals with experience designing and operating large-scale services on AWS.
- Background working on a zero-to-one, startup-like team (extra credit).
- Track record of leading a team through a significant shift in work practices (extra credit).
- Familiarity with developing Identity and Access Management (IAM) tooling (extra credit).
