About the Role

The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) Assistant Animal Care Manager will supervise the animal care section and manage the day-to-day care to ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations and standards. The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills and an understanding of the basic workings of a laboratory animal facility.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of the animal care section in the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources.
  • Assist with overseeing and ensuring staff compliance with all DLAR Standards Operating Procedures and Policies.
  • Assist with overseeing and ensuring proper on-the-job training for all animal care workers.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required, as the department has multiple facilities across campus, requiring the employee to drive animals and transport supplies and equipment between facilities.
  • Perform product ordering of animal-related supplies required for daily animal care.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Program descriptions required by AAALAC prior to site visits, and in documentation for site inspections from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and NY State Public Health.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • In lieu of degree, Four (4) years of full-time experience working in an animal related field may be considered.
  • Experience working in an animal research facility.
  • Experience caring for the major laboratory animal species.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License.
  • Must have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

Salary/Compensations

  • Starting salary range to be offered for this position is noted below
  • $4000 UUP annual location pay
