About the Role

The Threat Analysis Specialist will lead efforts to implement a University-wide information/data and insight program for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) at Stony Brook University. This role involves collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data to provide tactical and strategic insights, enhancing situational awareness for risk management. The specialist will track important issues, provide timely information during crises, and conduct in-depth analysis within the Insider Risk Program to identify and mitigate potential insider threats. Collaboration with internal teams is key to providing information for decision-making and threat mitigation.

Responsibilities

Collect, analyze, and synthesize data from various sources to provide tactical and strategic insights.
Track issues of importance and provide timely information and analysis during crises.
Conduct in-depth analysis within the Insider Risk Program to identify, assess, and synthesize indicators of potential insider threats.
Partner with internal teams to provide information for decision-making and threat mitigation.
Collect raw, primary, and secondary data from diverse sources including automated database systems, operational briefing reports, communications, and open/closed sources.
Assess the validity of gathered information and compile briefings for senior leadership.
Track issues and potential crises, providing timely information and analysis for the University's response.
Prepare and review descriptive and current informational reports and daily briefings.
Provide behavioral analysis and reporting for assessment, interventions, and referrals.
Produce strategic finished informational products, including manuals and white papers.
Prepare components of complex studies or reports, including dashboards and predictive data modeling.
Cultivate and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, subject-matter experts, policy committees, and law enforcement agencies.
Conduct risk assessments and prepare briefing reports for international and domestic travel.
Assist with the design and delivery of risk assessment and threat awareness training programs.
Provide analytical support on insider risk mitigation efforts and develop programmatic standards and training.
Support the daily functions of the Insider Risk Program, including intake, triage, analyzing risks, and making mitigation recommendations.
Analyze trends and patterns in insider risk data to inform proactive mitigation strategies.
Help develop and deliver awareness initiatives focused on insider risk, ethical conduct, and institutional responsibilities.
Promote understanding of how to recognize and report potential insider risk concerns.
Track metrics such as case volume, types of risks, resolution timelines, and repeat issues, producing statistical reports.
Build partnerships with external agencies and stay current on policies, protocols, and best practices related to research security and insider risk programs.
Conduct ongoing and annual reviews to identify potential threat trends to the campus community.
Perform other duties or projects as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in criminal justice, psychology, homeland security, or a related field.
Three (3) years of full-time experience demonstrating the ability to analyze data and produce informational briefings.
Experience in using analytic tools, OSINT research databases, and/or synthesizing large amounts of information from multiple sources.
Must possess, maintain, and keep current an appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License.
Must have a motor vehicle record free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
