About the Role
St. John's Riverside Hospital is seeking a Pharmacist to interpret, monitor, and process physician prescriptions and medication orders. This role serves as a drug information resource and ensures rational medication use, compounding and dispensing medications, and maintaining pharmacy operations.
Responsibilities
- Interpret, monitor, and process physician prescriptions and medication orders.
- Act as a drug information resource to patients, medical staff, nursing staff, and ancillary department personnel.
- Intervene to clarify or promote rational medication use.
- Compound and dispense prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals.
- Process and review pertinent information and medication orders into the Meditech computer system.
- Monitor orders for accuracy, drug allergies, drug interactions, duplicate therapy, rational drug therapy, and incompatibilities.
- Provide drug information upon request.
- Operate Pyxis systems (Connect, Anesthesia, 3500, and Profile).
- Compound medications using standard formulas and processes.
- Ensure the maintenance and proper operation of equipment and supplies.
- Dispose of medications and hazardous wastes properly.
- Read, analyze, and interpret pharmacy-related journals.
- Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or hospital staff.
Requirements
- BS in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy required.
- Must hold a current and valid New York State License.
- Hospital experience is preferred but not essential.
- Must have excellent communication skills in English.
- Must have the ability to work well with others.
- Must be familiar with computers and have a good working knowledge of a clinical information system.
