About the Role
Activity Specialists will assist in the day-to-day functioning of the program, ensuring youth are learning and building hard skills. This position is based on youth interest and requires maintaining a minimum of 15 youth in a group.
Responsibilities
- Complete 15 hours of training within the first three months of hire and attend two mandatory agency-wide Professional Development trainings.
- Supervise all participants, particularly during special activities.
- Maintain an organized and clean classroom space.
- Maintain a daily log of all incidents/injuries.
- Chaperone youth groups during trips and other field activities.
- Assist with all aspects of programming, including following the organization's mission, supervising youth, and communicating with staff.
- Perform administrative duties, including follow-up calls to parents.
- Attend all required department/agency meetings and/or training.
- Create lessons and curriculum around specialty.
- Implement and facilitate projects and recreational activities.
- Take initiative to assist program participants and group leaders.
- Maintain program supplies and ensure proper use.
- Help enforce all rules, regulations, and codes of conduct.
- Supervise a group of children, participate in activities and trips, and provide a safe working environment.
- Maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kits.
- Maintain medical and emergency contact information for each participant.
- Prepare attendance reports and other required reports.
- Adhere to all regulations and procedures outlined in the safety plan.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required; College Degree Preferred.
- 3+ years of experience working in a specialized field.
- Experience working with and devising curricula around specialization.
- Previous experience with classroom instruction and/or facilitating lessons in specialized fields.
- Must be responsible, organized, and demonstrate positive communication skills.
- Must be personable, energetic, and enthusiastic.
- Must successfully complete NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening, New York State Clearance Review, Background Check, 3 Reference Checks, and a Physical with an updated TB Test.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all students and staff while remaining professional.
- Must be able to motivate students and set a positive example in timeliness, attendance, and professionalism.
- Must submit a $25 fee for NY State Clearance Review if offered the position.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral or written instructions.
- Ability to relate to officials, staff, and the public in a courteous manner.
