About the Role
The Medical Waste Route Driver is responsible for servicing assigned accounts professionally, ensuring customer needs are met for waste pickup and supply delivery. This role provides the highest level of customer service and may involve transporting waste between locations. All company vehicles are equipped with camera telematics, ELD, and GPS.
Responsibilities
- Manages assigned routes ensuring customers’ waste is picked up in a safe, timely, efficient and accurate manner
- Picks up and transports waste safely according to all federal, state, and local rules and regulations
- Follows routing software route schedule
- Plans daily schedule based on customers’ needs by reviewing daily paperwork
- Prepares paperwork, loads supplies, loads and secures waste and loads / unloads trucks while servicing customer accounts
- Picks up specified waste from each customer site scheduled for the day, ensuring waste is packaged and prepared according to regulations before transporting
- Provides the highest level of customer service to assigned accounts daily, communicating any issues to management for resolution
- Ensures waste, supplies, and material handling equipment are secured prior to operating vehicle on public highway
- Ensures that assigned paperwork is completed legibly, neatly, accurately, and completely and returned for processing
- Ensures DOT Driver Log is completed, if applicable
- Communicates with WMHS Transportation Supervisor and/or Dispatcher regarding any change to route pickups
- Reports any problems/issues with accounts to Transportation Supervisor and/or Dispatcher before the close of business each day
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip maintenance on assigned truck
- Reports any maintenance problems to Transportation/Dispatcher for follow-up
- Uses ELD (electronic logging device) and Geotab to log hours per DOT guidelines
- Performs other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
Requirements
- 6 months of experience, preferably in driving a commercial motor vehicle or box trucks
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B with an excellent driving record
- All CMV/CDL drivers must be able to obtain a medical card by a certified medical examiner
- Must have, or be willing to obtain, a REAL ID or TSA-approved alternative
