About the Role
This role involves obtaining and verifying information to underwrite new business cases, processing policies, and providing exceptional customer service to agents and underwriters. The position may offer flexibility through a telecommuting arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Provide support and confer with agents by telephone and email.
- Respond to questions, obtain necessary underwriting requirements and follow up with field on pending offers.
- Compile appropriate documents and communicate with reinsurers.
- Update the claims and/or underwriting workflow systems with the status of policy requirements.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of input data before submitting updates.
- Keep records of customer interactions and transactions, recording details of inquiries and comments as well as actions taken.
- Review initial forms for completeness and follow-up for missing information.
- Review and approve final policy documents for release.
- Set-up and process exam only and informal inquiry files.
- Obtain proper authorizations, research physicians, affiliates and addresses and verify that necessary forms have been received prior to ordering reports.
- Order necessary reports, receive APS, replies from MDs and reimburse appropriate party for records.
- Provide follow-up when necessary.
- Prepare and process reinstatement and exchange paperwork for Underwriters.
- Process full term conversions as assigned.
- Issue annuity contracts and life policies.
- Review submitted paperwork, verify guidelines are met and obtain necessary approvals for issuance.
- Prepare policy/contract amendments and pay initial premiums to place policy in force.
- Review and process requests for reissue policies.
- Process incoming mail, faxes and medical releases.
- Retire inactive cases and process policies not taken.
- Keep up-to-date with the qualifications and requirements of assigned areas that may include underwriting programs, replacement procedures, claims and new business, in order to comply with Company and state rules and regulations.
- Build and maintain vendor relationships.
- Prepare, reconcile and process vendor bills.
- Process complex term conversions including but not limited to partial term conversions, term conversions that require underwriting, custom term rider/primary insured rider term conversions and convert and combine term conversions.
- Assist with obtaining initial claims forms and order necessary reports.
- Act as a mentor for other co-workers and provide feedback to manager as necessary.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of related experience is required.
- Experience in Customer Service required.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent data entry skills.
- Ability to learn and follow applicable regulations and company procedures.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and organize a heavy workload.
- Must demonstrate a “can-do” attitude by taking initiative, being enthusiastic, flexible and dependable.
- Experience in a life insurance or closely related setting required.
Skills
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
- Life insurance experience preferred.
- Industry recognized certifications preferred.
