About the Role

The Automation Controls Engineering Specialist provides expert controls engineering support for two Atlantic Plants, focusing on technical expertise for automation and controls. This role is crucial for maintaining plant operations and supporting complex technical issues.

Responsibilities

  • Act as subject matter expert in diagnostics for complex issues beyond internal electricians' capabilities.
  • Provide technical support during machine downtime, prioritizing 24/5 operations.
  • Program PLCs (Siemens S7 or AB RSLogix), SCADA, and Python.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • Provide cross-training to electricians.
  • Perform backups of PLC, SCADA, HMI, and Drive parameters.
  • Obtain missing files from OEMs and maintain engineering software on Controls Engineering Laptops.
  • Ensure Engineering Controls Laptops can connect to various devices, primarily Allen Bradley and Siemens.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing solutions for Electrical Controls issues.
  • Coordinate Electrical Controls / Automation projects, including End-of-Life machinery and component replacements.
  • Work occasional extended hours to support troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
  • Train electricians when time permits.

Requirements

  • Technologist, Engineer, or Electrician with 8 years of OEM Machine building experience required.
  • Technologist or Engineer must have a minimum of 5 years of OEM machine building experience, preferably in PLC/SCADA programming, VFD configuration, Electrical Control system integration, and commissioning complex Automation/Robotics systems with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs, SCADA/HMIs.
  • Electrician with a minimum of 8 years of OEM machine building experience, preferably in PLC/SCADA programming, VFD configuration, Electrical Control system integration, and commissioning complex Automation/Robotics systems with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs, SCADA/HMIs.
  • Candidates with OEM machine building hands-on experience (Controls Programming, PLC/Drive system integration, Commissioning) is preferred.
  • Understand or trained on PLC software logic.
  • Understand PLC/Drive system integration to production equipment and communication protocols.
  • Able to configure, setup, and troubleshoot VFDs.
  • Able to troubleshoot complex Automation/Robotics systems using electrical meters, PLC software, and SCADA systems.
  • Candidates must be 18 years or older and complete a criminal and background check.
