About the Role

Our growing Ophthalmology department is seeking a skilled and compassionate Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a part in delivering exceptional specialty eye care, ensuring the highest standard of care for our patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic and advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests and assist with patient holding for ocular examination, including restraining fractious cats.
  • Educate clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care via email and other communication.
  • Assist with procedures and surgeries ranging from outpatient to complex surgeries, including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, and glaucoma surgery.
  • Provide exceptional and compassionate care for patients from admission through discharge.
  • Provide anesthesia, surgical support, and post-operative recovery for patients of all ASA levels.
  • Place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs, and monitor sedation/anesthesia.
  • Assist the Ophthalmology department with appointments and facilitate technician appointments, including filling prescriptions.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot surgical and anesthetic equipment.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues.

Requirements

  • Must possess a NYS Veterinary Technician’s license.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team and autonomously.
  • Ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Strong skill set in phlebotomy, catheter placement, anesthesia protocols, anesthesia monitoring, and post-operative care.
  • Solid basic anesthesia skill set; ophthalmology experience preferred but not required.
  • Eager to learn more about diseases and medication specific to ophthalmology.
  • Ability to lift and restrain animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Basic computer skills are essential.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
