About the Role

East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan that believes education is key to creating opportunities. The Compass Elementary Program provides high-quality programs and services within community centers and school partnerships. The Youth Educator will design and lead diverse enrichment activities, including homework help, robotics, team sports, karate, dance, and music, guiding youth in their academic, social, and emotional development.

Responsibilities

Identify, create, and facilitate age-appropriate, thematic-based lesson plans and activities.
Work as part of a collaborative team, providing support to any specialist implementing activities.
Prepare the learning environment by creating a welcoming space that exhibits participant's work.
Build positive relations with youth and adults to serve as a role model.
Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants by closely supervising all activities.
Assist in participant's enrollment, recording and submitting daily attendance records and other required documents.
Inspect daily all facilities, equipment, and supplies; ensure all are accounted for and put away at the end of each day.
Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing.
Organize storage areas and control the use of materials, equipment, and tools.
Maintain accurate program documentation (incident/accident/behavior reports, attendance & sign-in / sign-out sheets).
Understand and communicate the East Side House Settlement mission and the goals of the Compass program.
Actively participate in all aspects of professional development, including supervision, team meetings, and training.
Demonstrate key competencies including initiative, teamwork, cooperation, preparedness, professionalism, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Organize and participate in external special events to promote the Agency's mission and image.
Adhere to all ESH policies, practices, and procedures.

Requirements

Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
Must have experience working with elementary schools, preferably in a racially, ethically, and socio-emotionally diverse urban community.
Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience required.
A genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities and field practice.
Possess and ability to engage and lead activities in your area of specialty.
Strong communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent judgment.
Ability to work in a team in various environments.
Must be able to communicate effectively with all participants while remaining professional at all times.
Must be able to motivate students while setting an example in all areas, including responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance, and professionalism.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
Employees must be clear to work at ESH. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings.
