About the Role

This team builds the production systems that capture, coordinate, and validate expert judgment and high-quality data workflows at scale, directly connecting customer requests to shipped outputs. These are long-running, stateful systems where state must tolerate late mutation and correctness must survive disagreements between humans and models. This is a backend systems and orchestration problem where early engineers will shape the architecture.

Responsibilities

Design services and state models for multi-stage workflows involving automated processing and expert reviewers.
Build orchestration primitives like retries, failure recovery, idempotency, and auditable state transitions for long-running jobs.
Integrate model inference into production workflows while maintaining debuggability and human oversight.
Build APIs and tooling for product, operations, and ML teams to operate, debug, and trust these systems.
Own reliability and observability for workflows where silent failures can corrupt results.

Requirements

Production backend experience with strong opinions on system longevity.
Sharp instincts for system design, service boundaries, and complexity management.
Fluency with distributed systems toolkit: async workflows, queues, idempotency, retries, and long-running jobs.
Ability to translate ambiguous product, operational, and ML constraints into clean, debuggable systems.
Comfort working in Python on AWS with Postgres.
Experience with Temporal or similar workflow engines is a plus.
Takes debugging frustration personally and is motivated to fix it.
Has strong, defensible opinions on state management.
Moves fast but prioritizes reliability.
Wants work to have a short, visible line to customer outcomes.
