About the Role

Alt Value is our moat, and its quality depends on the data underneath it. This role owns the pipelines that scrape, normalize, and land transaction and listing data from external marketplaces and auction houses to feed our pricing model. Your work directly impacts pricing decisions, cash advance terms, market analytics, and company dashboards. The key metric you own is Data Coverage, with supporting KPIs including pipeline latency, uptime, and source coverage.

Responsibilities

• Design, optimize, and own the ingestion pipelines that scrape, process, and ingest transaction and listing data from major auction houses and marketplaces.
• Build monitoring and alerting systems to track latency, uptime, and coverage across every data source.
• Modernize storage and processing to reduce manual intervention and optimize for cost, performance, and reliability.
• Partner with pricing, ML, product, and analytics teams to understand data usage and deliver clean, standardized data.
• Utilize AI to automate parser fixes, build triage loops for pipeline failures, and employ LLM extraction for low-volume sources.
• Implement an MCP server over the warehouse for efficient data coverage queries.
• Use AI tools like Claude Code or Cursor for migrations and backfills.

Requirements

• 3-4 years in data engineering or a closely adjacent role.
• Strong Python skills with 3+ years of hands-on experience.
• Experience with large-scale data processing using dataframe technologies (Pandas, Polars, PySpark, or similar).
• Hands-on experience with orchestration systems like Airflow, Dagster, or comparable DAG systems.
• Experience owning a data pipeline end-to-end.
• Solid SQL skills for analysis and transformation.
• Startup experience, understanding of fast-paced environments, and adaptability to changing roadmaps.
• Pragmatic approach, valuing incremental delivery over perfect rebuilds.
• Experience with web scraping at scale (Selenium, Puppeteer, Beautiful Soup) is a bonus.
• AWS experience is a bonus.
• Experience with LLM-based extraction and processing is a bonus.
• Experience or strong opinions about the collectibles market is a bonus.
