About the Role

RSM Canada is seeking a Tax Manager to join their expanding Business Tax - Financial Services practice. This role offers the opportunity to work with complex clients in sectors such as Asset Management, Financial Institutions, Insurance, Specialty Finance, and Brokerage and Trading.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the business relationship of complex engagements, focusing on high-quality tax advice and seeking to expand services to clients.
  • Serve as a Performance Advisor, mentor, or coach to employees, providing honest and timely performance feedback.
  • Train and develop staff members.
  • Manage multiple complex issues, communicating non-technically to facilitate understanding between clients and the service team while managing risk.
  • Drive growth and profitability by generating new revenue, cross-selling, and acquiring new clients for the tax practice.
  • Interact directly with clients on questions, planning, and consulting.
  • Serve as the Tax relationship leader, developing and executing the firm’s client service plan.
  • Review research findings to ensure consistency with firm policies and professional standards.
  • Build relationships across lines of business for integrated client service.
  • Manage client needs regarding tax services and federal and state tax compliance.
  • Stay current on tax practices and changes in tax law.
  • Some travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Accounting or a related field.
  • CPA Designation.
  • Working towards or completion of Masters of Tax or CPA In-depth Tax Program.
  • 5+ years of experience in Public Accounting, preferably in a tax-focused role.
  • Ability to work closely with clients to answer questions or gather necessary information for tax service requirements.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Corporations, Partnerships, and Trusts.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act and technical aspects of tax compliance and accounting.
  • Strong technical skills in tax preparation and developing tax focus areas.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience in dealing with international tax matters and tax review is an asset.
