About the Role
The Clinical Secretary provides essential office administrative support within a team-based patient care environment. This role is crucial for ensuring seamless patient care by managing phone calls, scheduling appointments, processing referrals and prior authorizations, and resolving issues. The position also involves verifying insurance eligibility, collecting patient payments, and maintaining compliance for optimal reimbursement.
Responsibilities
- Provide office administrative support within a multi-disciplinary, team-based patient care process.
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, process referrals and prior authorizations, and resolve patient issues.
- Verify insurance eligibility and collect patient payments.
- Ensure compliance and maximum reimbursement.
- Interpret and apply knowledge of insurance benefits to specific patient needs.
- Input, classify, and manage documentation in the electronic medical record system.
- Perform diverse tasks to maintain an efficient and organized office.
- Actively support physicians and nurses.
- Participate in department meetings and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Manage a demanding workload with accuracy and professionalism.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, staff, providers, management, vendors, and the public.
Requirements
- Demonstrates skill in administrative support within a medical office setting.
- Proficient in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Microsoft Word, and insurer systems.
- Skilled in appointment scheduling, document classification, patient outreach, and insurance verification.
- Knowledgeable in Medicare Secondary Payor and HIPAA compliance.
- Demonstrates a caring and concerned approach to all patients.
- Exhibits a patient-centered approach to care, adhering to NCQA's Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) requirements.
- Possesses strong time management, keyboarding, and multi-tasking skills.
- Able to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with providers, staff, and Practice Management.
- Able to work independently and exhibit flexibility in decision-making and prioritizing assignments.
- Exhibits leadership skills by supporting practice and system goals.
- Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information.
