About the Role

VIZ Media is seeking two Editors to join its publishing department. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse print and digital publications, collaborate with creative professionals, and propose new series for acquisition.

Responsibilities

• Manage all editorial duties for graphic novel, simultaneous serialization, and trade book production for print and digital formats.
• Edit manuscripts, proofread page and cover proofs, check bluelines, and review digital editions for quality and consistency.
• Oversee freelance translators, rewriters, and letterers for book production.
• Address licensor requirements and secure approval for publication projects with the Publishing Licensing department.
• Collaborate with Designers on the creation of cover and text layout for graphic novels and trade books.
• Write cover text, catalog copy, and other marketing and sales materials.
• Check promotional copy for consistency with title facts and spirit.
• Determine production specifications and conduct cost analysis with Production and senior Publishing staff.
• Research and propose potential publishing acquisitions.
• Represent and advocate for assigned titles.
• Provide editorial and informational support to other departments, including Digital Publishing, Sales, Marketing, and Animation.

Requirements

• 2-4 years of experience in editorial services for book publication, simultaneous serialization, graphic novels, video games, or trade books.
• Knowledge of book publishing, comics, manga, or anime.
• Experience writing and editing high-quality copy and maintaining project continuity.
• Ability to balance creative judgments with business requirements.
• Strong skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent project and deadline management skills.
• Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Comparative Literature, Communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Prior experience in the publishing industry (preferred).
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop) (preferred).
• Working knowledge of the Japanese language (a plus, not a must).
