About the Role
Join our MongoDB Search Systems Engineering team to build next-generation database infrastructure at scale. You will work with talented engineering teams architecting distributed systems for highly performant search and AI applications. This role operates at the intersection of infrastructure innovation and customer impact, building foundational platform capabilities for future enterprise search and AI solutions.
Responsibilities
- Drive the long-term technical vision for MongoDB Search, anticipating emerging patterns in vector, hybrid, and AI-native applications to build conviction around platform investments 12–18 months ahead of market demand.
- Act as the voice of customers building mission-critical AI applications, using deep technical discovery to uncover latent needs around scalability and consistency.
- Partner deeply with engineering leadership to translate complex technical tradeoffs into business value, balancing rapid innovation velocity with rigorous production stability.
- Collaborate with SRE and Solutions Architects to build advanced instrumentation strategies and feedback loops, turning production signals and incident learnings into proactive improvements.
Requirements
- 5+ years of PM experience with a specific focus on infrastructure or distributed systems.
- Mastery of concepts like CAP theorem, consistency models, and sharding strategies.
- Demonstrated empathy for the engineering experience, including on-call duties and debugging production incidents.
- Ability to operate at the intersection of complex architecture and business strategy.
- Capability to debate consensus algorithms with engineers.
- Proven track record of driving operational excellence combined with exceptional narrative skills.
- Ability to analyze low-level system metrics and craft executive narratives connecting infrastructure health to business outcomes.
- Ability to earn the trust of senior engineers through technical depth and respect for complexity.
- Skill in guiding architectural decisions without formal authority.
- Ability to translate architectural decisions into market differentiation and forward-looking product investments.
- Understanding of platform products where customers build abstractions on top of abstractions.
- Ability to design deeply technical products with customer long-term success criteria in mind.
