About the Role

The Mechanic/Electrician I is a key maintenance team contributor responsible for maintaining equipment to support production requirements, utilizing strong mechanical and electrical aptitude. The role requires collaboration with internal and external customers, comfort working independently, and active involvement in supporting safety, quality, Good Manufacturing Practices, and preventive maintenance programs.

Responsibilities

Setup, repair, install, and maintain machinery equipment, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Perform preventive maintenance duties.
Complete all production equipment setups as required to meet operational needs.
Support and complete preventive and planned maintenance of mechanical and utilities equipment.
Assist in diagnosing electrical and mechanical malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
Visually inspect and listen to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunction.
Identify and report the need for repairs or major repairs to Maintenance Management.
Crossover with previous shifts' maintenance and production employees to review the schedule and current runs, identifying repair needs and planning product changeovers.
Communicate effectively with other departments regarding equipment and repair status.
Accurately communicate and document events within the maintenance team for effective problem-solving.
Assist with the installation of new equipment and enhance equipment through continuous improvements and upgrades.
Perform basic fabrication using tools for cutting, welding, grinding, and soldering.
Enhance knowledge and skills of mechanical and electrical systems through on-the-job training.
Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance Managers, and Master Mechanics on projects, continuous improvement, and annual plant shut-down maintenance.
Complete all tasks while strictly adhering to all required industry guidelines, including Plant Safety, Food Safety, SQF, and all internal/external audits.
Report food safety and quality problems to personnel with the authority to initiate action.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
Basic computer literacy, including online searches, email, and attachments.
Ability to read, write, and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, procedure manuals, and operating/maintenance instructions.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Experience working with manufacturing equipment, including 3-phase motors, control wiring, and various voltage levels (24VDC, 120VAC, 208/220VAC, 480VAC).
Experience with Controls for Conveyor Systems, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Pumps, and Valves.
Knowledge of and ability to comprehend and troubleshoot production machinery (e.g., Fillers, Rinsers, Cappers, Case Packers, Case Formers, Coolers, Pasteurizers).
Familiarity with Lock-Out Tag-Out Authorized, Hot Work, Confined Space, and HECP Training preferred.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
Ability to use a variety of measuring tools and test equipment.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Requires mechanical aptitude.
Knowledge of Drill Press, Chop Saw, Port-a-Band, Sawzall, and other maintenance tools preferred.
Knowledge or experience with Multi-Meters, Amp Probes, Meger Ohm Meter, Panelview.
LiDestri experience of 2+ years and familiarity with 85% of plant machinery.
Familiarity with Manlift, Powertools, Hand tools, Panelview Controls, Production Machines, X-Ray Equipment, all types of Photo Eyes, Light Curtains, and Conveyors.
Familiarity with Kitchen equipment and Pumps, Milling Machine, Lathes, and Drill Press.
Familiarity with Lock-Out Tag-Out Equipment, Gear, and HECPS.
Familiarity with Computer and Printer.
Ability to climb ladders and use carts.
Familiarity with Ammeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and motor megger.
Familiarity with Digital Multimeter and clamp-on AC current reader.
Familiarity with RTO calibrator, RTO Milliamp, and Calibrator/simulator.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to long periods of standing/moving, working around moving mechanical parts/conveyors, loud environments, hot/cold, wet/dry conditions, lifting/carrying <50 pounds, and frequent reaching/pulling/climbing stairs/stooping/kneeling/bending.
