About the Role
The Emergency Room Social Worker provides discharge planning for patients admitted to the emergency department. This role is part of an interdisciplinary team, conducting clinical social work assessments and offering services like crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, and referrals. The social worker also facilitates psychiatric transfers and serves referrals from the pediatric emergency room.
Responsibilities
- Provide discharge planning for patients admitted to the emergency department.
- Conduct clinical social work assessments.
- Provide crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, information, and referrals.
- Facilitate psychiatric transfers for patients requiring hospitalization.
- See referrals from the pediatric emergency room.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW)
- New York State License as a Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW)
- Communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team
- Work efficiently and effectively under pressure
- Work comfortably within the limitations of the medical setting
- Computer literacy
- Must live within a commutable distance to NYP
