About the Role

Perform essential greenhouse tasks, interact with guests to sell plants and related products, and be familiar with sales procedures and basic accounting practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining the integrity of the greenhouse environment, including irrigation and climate control systems.
• Practice basic greenhouse/plant growth techniques such as watering, potting, fertilizing, washing pots, staking, and pruning.
• Identify plant needs and indicators of disease, stress, or insect infestations.
• Perform daily monitoring and control measures related to the IPM program.
• Answer guest questions accurately, demonstrating a friendly and helpful personality.
• Provide advice to guests on the selection, purchase, and care of plants.
• Assist in the preparation of decorating schemes, promotions, amenities, special tasks, and programs.
• Maintain greenhouse inventories of equipment, tools, and supplies.
• Maintain current horticultural and plant knowledge, technical updates, and support for the IPM program.
• Record Garden Shop and Greenhouse inventory, stock, and supplies.
• Work with the Greenhouse Manager on gift inventory and amenities.
• Assist in regular house decoration and decoration for special occasions.
• Communicate needs with the Greenhouse Supervisor or Greenhouse Grower.
• Adhere to all safety rules and regulations and wear safety equipment.
• Work alongside other departments and provide support to ensure guest satisfaction.
• Interact with fellow staff and guests in a professional and courteous manner.
• Positively influence staff morale and exemplify a cooperative attitude.
• Work productively and efficiently with or without supervision when performing routine tasks.
• Maintain order on the job site and within greenhouse storage areas.
• Ensure the safety of guests, employees, and self.

• Learn and successfully demonstrate the Mohonk Mountain House Service Steps with Service Strategies.
• Learn and retain knowledge of historical facts and information about Mohonk Mountain House.
• Maintain a flexible work schedule, including days/nights, weekdays/weekends, holidays, and during peak periods.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other staff.
• Support all Mohonk Mountain House programs and policies.
• See colors to recognize visual indicators concerning plant health and color coordination for decorating purposes.
• Use, operate, or maneuver various gardening hand tools and equipment.
• Work under high-pressure situations, maintaining good personal composure.
• Perform basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Perform and record cash/credit transactions accurately.
• Speak, read, and write the English language and communicate clearly and congenially.
• Hear verbal instructions, directions, and warnings.
• Lift up to 75 pounds from ground level to 3 feet and 20 pounds from ground level to overhead and carry a distance of up to 100 feet with/without assistance.
• Walk up to 3 miles per day.
• Reach with hands and arms, bend, kneel, stoop, twist and flex arms, walk up and down stairs/inclines, sit, climb up/down ladders or stand for up to 5 hours at a time.
• See close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Able to work outside in all weather conditions, as well as inside the greenhouses in extreme heat.

Requirements

• Greenhouse or horticulture experience preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• At least 21 years of age, or 20 years of age with at least two years of licensed driving experience.
