About the Role

Alt is building a standalone business around its vaulting services, and this founding engineer will be responsible for automating intake, scan orchestration, and quality control to expedite item processing. The role involves extending the system beyond trading cards and developing Vault-as-a-Service, including account infrastructure, billing, and APIs for enterprise partners. The primary metric for success is reducing the time from item receipt to platform availability, especially as new asset classes are introduced. This position requires an interest in operational complexity, P&Ls, and SLAs, and an opportunity to build novel solutions.

Responsibilities

Automate the vault pipeline to reduce the time from item received to live on platform, including intake automation, scan orchestration, and quality-control tooling.
Architect the account infrastructure, billing, and external APIs for Vault-as-a-Service, enabling enterprise partners to manage assets programmatically.
Optimize the digitization stack, including card imaging and lighting pipelines, and enhance photos to 360-degree views.
Own features end-to-end, from technical design through polished UI, ensuring the product surfaces are as sharp as the backend.
Level up the growing Vault team through code reviews, technical documentation, and mentorship.

Requirements

5+ years of backend experience (Python, Postgres, AWS or similar cloud infrastructure) and frontend experience (React, React Native, JavaScript/TypeScript).
A track record of owning features or systems from design to production.
Business-owner thinking, understanding P&Ls, SLAs, and the requirements of running a product as an independent business unit.
A pull toward operational complexity, energized by problems bridging software and the physical world.
Pragmatism and pace, knowing when to build custom solutions and when to integrate, with a bias toward action.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, including writing great documentation, asking smart questions, and providing thoughtful feedback.
A user-first mindset with a sharp eye for clean UX and performance.
Familiarity with the collectibles space or alternative asset marketplaces is a bonus.
Logistics, customs, or shipping systems experience is a bonus.
Experience as a collector is a bonus.
