About the Role
The Advanced Commercialization Engineer V for the New Product Commercial team (NPC) is recognized as a technical authority within the organization driving early commercialization of first‑in‑world semiconductor equipment by shaping architecture, manufacturability, cost intent, and supply readiness before design lock. Anticipates complex technical, commercial, and organizational challenges and drives system‑level solutions with broad business impact.
Responsibilities
- Leads front‑end commercialization strategy for complex or multiple new product programs, influencing architecture, platform decisions, and supplier engagement models.
- Leads enterprise-level DFx execution (DfM, DfA, DfC, DfS, DfR, ITO, transportability), establishing standards and ensuring consistent application across programs.
- Establishes early co‑development models with strategic suppliers and Materials Program Management, ensuring supplier capability, material strategy, and design intent are jointly optimized during concept and architecture phases.
- Acts as senior technical authority and escalation point for complex mechanical and electrical design decisions affecting manufacturability, yield (producibility), serviceability, and cost.
- Defines and drives technical execution frameworks and operating models that translate early design intent into scalable, executable commercialization plans.
- Establishes and governs the approach for progressing commercialization and virtual validation when designs are incomplete, ensuring early decisions preserve architectural intent while enabling forward manufacturing and supplier strategies.
- Establishes the ACE operating model for MLO/Virtual Analysis execution under incomplete design maturity, including minimum content standards, decision gates, and escalation paths to prevent late-cycle surprises.
- Serves as the senior escalation point for ambiguous design intent impacting commercialization, driving cross‑org alignment with Design Engineering and ensuring architecture decisions remain true to intent while enabling producibility, supply chain readiness, and scalable manufacturing strategy.
- Leads cross-functional technical alignment across Design Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, DFx, Materials, and Supplier Engineering organizations.
- Shapes supplier ecosystems and technical roadmaps, driving co-development strategies and long-term capability alignment with product platforms.
- Integrates manufacturing cost structures, process economics, and should-cost frameworks into front-end commercialization strategy; ensures product architecture and platform decisions are informed by manufacturing cost risk and supplier capability alignment before designs are committed.
- Partners with Product Cost Engineering to establish cost targets and DFx priorities at the program level.
- Identifies systemic technical, supplier, and execution risks across programs and drives mitigation strategies with enterprise-level visibility.
- Provides executive-level technical status, risk, and readiness assessments to senior leadership, grounded in engineering data and judgment.
- Partners with Program Management, Materials Program Management, and Business Unit leadership to ensure technical execution aligns with strategic, schedule, and financial objectives.
- Leads resolution of highly complex, multi-disciplinary technical issues with significant business impact, including post-launch systemic corrections.
- Mentors senior engineers and ACE Engineer IV / IV MTS staff; sets technical bar and contributes to talent development and succession planning.
- Defines, standardizes, and institutionalizes best-known methods (BKMs), tools, and processes for commercialization engineering and DFx execution.
Requirements
- Typically 10–15+ years of progressive engineering experience in product development, DFx, commercialization, supplier engineering, or complex technical program leadership.
- Demonstrates mastery across mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines with deep understanding of manufacturing systems — including process economics, cost structures, and precision fabrication methods — supplier processes, DFx methodologies, and product lifecycle execution.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of should-cost methodology and manufacturing process engineering as applied to platform and architecture decisions; translates cost risk into design guidance at a systems level.
- Possesses broad systems knowledge enabling cross-domain integration and optimization.
- Anticipates business, market, and regulatory trends and translates them into technical and commercialization strategies.
- Influences investment decisions, cost structures, and platform scalability through engineering leadership.
- Solves unique and complex problems with broad business impact, requiring conceptual thinking, systems-level analysis, and innovative solution development.
- Solves highly ambiguous, ill‑defined problems where design intent, architecture, and system boundaries are still evolving, owning executable paths forward that preserve product intent while enabling manufacturability, scalability, and commercialization readiness.
- Translates incomplete or conflicting design inputs into coherent technical strategies, balancing risk, learning velocity, and downstream impact across manufacturing, supply chain, and field operations.
