About the Role

Barnet Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Pest Control Technician to join our Environmental Health & Public Protection Service. This role plays a vital part in protecting public health, supporting local communities, and ensuring business compliance within one of London's largest and most diverse boroughs. Responsibilities

  • Undertake pest inspections, investigations, and treatments across a range of residential and commercial settings.
  • Identify infestations.
  • Recommend and implement effective treatment programmes.
  • Provide practical advice to customers.
  • Ensure all work is delivered safely, professionally, and in accordance with industry standards and best practice.

Requirements

  • Accredited Level 2 Diploma / Certificate in Pest Management or equivalent (e.g., through the Royal Health Society or BPCA).
  • Practical experience in the identification and control of common pests, particularly rodents and crawling or flying insects.
  • Good knowledge of integrated pest management principles and safe pesticide use.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety requirements associated with pest control work.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to investigate problems, assess risks, and determine appropriate control measures.
  • Good IT and administrative skills, including the ability to maintain accurate electronic records.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet service standards.
  • Professional and courteous approach when dealing with customers and members of the public.
  • A full UK driving licence.
