Responsibilities
- Conduct opening and closing procedures for plant/s according to established company procedures and guidelines.
- Operate a front-end loader to ensure material bins are filled to meet plant demands.
- Participate as an integral member of the plant leadership team to create a high performance.
- Perform daily moisture testing on materials to ensure compliance with stated specifications.
- Operate batch console to make ready mix concrete according to customer and company specifications.
- Demonstrate commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies and instilling safety culture in the workforce.
- Maintain housekeeping, plant signage, and plant presentation daily.
- Ensure efficient and safe use of equipment and operations by personnel to complete all required tasks.
- Inform dispatch on a timely basis of any plant activity, issues, or concerns that might impact customer service.
- Communicate with support departments (HSE Manager, fleet/plant maintenance, other plant facilities, quality control, HR, etc.) on a timely basis to identify and resolve questions and/or issues.
- Ensure company compliance with all company, local, state, and federal environmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist the plant manager with supervising plant production employees, including administering all applicable company policies and procedures.
- Assist plant manager with managing employee work hours in the most cost-effective manner.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to plant equipment as needed.
- Assist plant manager with administrative reporting, including cash sales report, delivery tickets, raw material receipts, and other reports as needed/requested.
- Assist plant manager with inventory measurement for all raw materials.
- Assist with the training of all production new hires at the site.
- Assist drivers with checking slumps on the slump stand at drivers’ request.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required to ensure the production schedule is met, including operating a Ready Mix truck when necessary.
- Batch and load at the appropriate time to arrive on the jobsite as scheduled.
- Complete all paperwork in its entirety and forward as applicable.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with the FDA, OSHA, EPA, LEPC, local Fire and Police Departments, Health Department, and Weights and Measures.
- Monitor job performance and productivity.
- Ensure that all employees are following company’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all employees are using all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are working safely.
- Prepare employee performance appraisals.
- Assist Plant Manager with accident investigation and reports as necessary.
- Represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
- Foster a team-building environment.
- Fill in for Plant Manager as needed.
Requirements
- Accuracy and attention to detail is a must.
- Must be able to pass DOT physical requirements.
- Must be able to lift/maneuver a minimum of 50 pounds as required throughout the workday.
- Frequent periods of sitting in a chair.
- Frequent/occasional reaching, grabbing, and pulling files and papers.
- Frequent/occasional use of fingers, wrists, and hands to enter data via computer keyboard.
- Occasional/frequent climbing of steps, stairs, and/or ladder.
- Occasional/frequent stooping, squatting, bending, kneeling, and twisting.
- Occasional pushing and pulling.
- Must be able to differentiate colors.
- Must be able to hear noises.
- Perform multiple tasks under stressful situations over long periods of time while maintaining proper composure.
- Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary.
- CDL holders must pass DOT (Department of Transportation) physical as well as federally mandated alcohol and drug testing requirements.
- Majority of work is performed indoors.
- Occasional exposure to elements of weather to include extremes in heat, cold, dust, and moisture for limited periods.
- Occasionally/frequently exposed to rough, muddy, and icy walking surface conditions.
- Intermittent exposure to high noise levels and vibration.
- Occasional/frequent exposure to moving parts/pieces of equipment.
- Frequent exposure to cement, concrete, admixtures, dust, diesel fuel, and other substances that may cause burns, be toxic, or explosive if handled incorrectly.
- Frequently exposed to water and wet conditions.
Skills
- Effective communication skills (oral and written).
- Proficiency with simple math calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (especially percentages) as well as measurements.
- Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
