About the Role
Cloudflare is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the SSL/TLS Team. This role involves building services with RESTful APIs and datastores using Go, writing functional specifications, integrating services via message queues, and evaluating third-party tools. You will also design and implement alerts, handle operational issues, migrate logic from legacy codebases, and review code. The goal is to build reliable, fault-tolerant systems at Cloudflare's scale, ensuring millions of websites have encryption and improving web security and performance.
Responsibilities
- Build services with RESTful APIs and their own datastores using Go and other languages.
- Write and maintain functional specifications for services.
- Integrate multiple services via message queue systems.
- Evaluate 3rd party and open source tools.
- Design and implement alerts.
- Write procedures for ops to handle alerts.
- Serve as an escalation point for unresolved operational issues.
- Read and understand code from a legacy codebase to migrate logic to a modern services architecture.
- Review the code of fellow engineers via pull requests.
- Build reliable, fault-tolerant systems that can operate at Cloudflare’s scale.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience building backend systems at a technology company.
- Experience writing production-quality code in Go (or other languages with a willingness to learn Go).
- Proven experience building and operating distributed systems.
- Proficiency with modern Unix/Linux development and runtime environments.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Track record of delivering well-tested, reliable code for production environments.
