About the Role

Hudson Valley Community College is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to support the finance department. This role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the College's financial operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting principles knowledge, computer application skills, and excellent communication and data analysis abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with preparation, review, and analysis of statistical and financial reports for internal or external distribution/submission.
  • Prepares data for the Actuary.
  • Coordinates the collection of data from other departments for the College’s independent audit.
  • Assists with the collection and processing of Certificate of Residency (COR) forms.
  • Leads the annual Cost of Curriculum Study Report.
  • Assists with processing non-tuition billing.
  • Assists with accounts receivables and follows up on outstanding balances, turning over delinquent accounts to a collection agency.
  • Performs collateral reconciliations.
  • Assists Cashier/Bursar’s Office with responding to student inquiries during peak times and as needed.
  • Assists with bank reconciliations.
  • Assists with annual calculations for auditors, including vacation accrual and termination benefits.
  • Assists Comptroller in working with the College’s independent auditors to reconcile annual financial statements to the College’s financial reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university OR Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of data collection and analysis in a computerized environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • Appointment is contingent upon completion of a background check.
