About the Role
Daedal Systems is seeking a Diagnostic Physicist to contribute to the development of its industrialized plasma diagnostic platform. This role involves supporting the design, deployment, and operation of various plasma diagnostics, with the potential to lead future diagnostic development. The physicist will be responsible for advancing spectroscopic diagnostics from early-stage concepts to deployable industrial systems.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, deployment, and operations of Thomson Scattering, X-ray Spectroscopy, and Vis-UV spectroscopy diagnostics.
- Support and/or lead subsequent diagnostic development, potentially including electron cyclotron emission, reflectometry, interferometry/polarimetry, B-dot, and/or Hall probes.
- Bring spectroscopic diagnostics from low-TRL, bench-top systems to industrialized, deployable systems integrated on fusion devices.
- Shape the measurement infrastructure applied across the fusion industry.
- Work autonomously on several diagnostics and support the full lifecycle from concept design, product development, implementation, and ongoing operational support.
- Help shape the overall technical direction of Daedal's industrialized plasma diagnostic platform.
Requirements
- Experience taking a plasma diagnostic through its full lifecycle: design, procurement, build, test, installation, commissioning, calibration, operation, and maintenance.
- Experience developing detailed diagnostic specifications that translate physics measurement requirements into achievable instrument performance.
- Ability to operate independently as a technical lead with minimal supervisory structure.
- Based in Toronto or willing to relocate.
- Comfortable with travel to support client systems globally, up to 20% of the time, occasionally for 2+ weeks consecutively.
