About the Role

Alt is unlocking the value of alternative assets, starting with the $5B trading-card market. We let collectors buy, sell, vault, and finance their cards in one place. Our next frontier is real-time pricing at scale—the Alt Value that powers every trade, loan, and product on the platform. This role involves building and scaling high-concurrency bidding and listing systems, as well as the surfaces on top of them, directly impacting auction GMV.

Responsibilities

• Build and scale the auction engine, including high-concurrency bidding and listing systems.
• Develop AI-powered liquidity features for instant valuations and upfront liquidity for sellers.
• Implement personalized discovery features using data and machine learning to match collectibles with buyers.
• Design and launch power-seller tooling for high-frequency sellers and veteran hobbyists.
• Own the end-to-end experience from backend bid resolution to the responsive UI.
• Mentor the team and set standards for code quality, reliability, and performance.
• Ship instant valuation into the consignor flow using AI.
• Use vision and language models to enrich listings at scale.
• Build a load-and-concurrency harness for testing.
• Stand up an agent over auction telemetry to flag anomalies.
• Implement an MCP server over auction telemetry for historical analysis.
• Utilize Claude Code or Cursor for refactoring and migrations.

Requirements

• 5+ years building and scaling complex applications.
• Experience with Python, Postgres, and AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure.
• Deep experience with React, TypeScript, and building high-performance real-time UIs.
• A track record of building reliable systems under pressure.
• Experience turning LLMs or computer vision models into practical, user-facing features.
• Strong product instincts and understanding of the collector mindset.
• High agency and ability to find and execute high-leverage work independently.
• Experience with personalization engines, recommendation systems, or AI/ML integrations is a bonus.
• Startup experience is a bonus.
• Experience collecting or a view on the market's direction is a bonus.
