About the Role
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Mario Shields in the department of Pathology. The Shields laboratory investigates the mechanisms of development and progression of diseases impacting the exocrine pancreas, such as pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. Current studies focus on defining the mechanisms by which Ga13 regulates tumor metabolism and inflammation.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct research experiments within the predetermined research scope and methodology.
- Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.
- Assist in grant writing.
- Assist with training and oversight of junior scientists.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
- Attend Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
Requirements
- Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Cancer biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Immunology or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment.
- One first authored publication in a highly regarded peer-reviewed journal in the field.
- Laboratory research experience in cancer biology, genetic engineered mouse models, microscopy, histology, flow cytometry and/or bioinformatics.
- Good problem solving and organizational skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to conduct experiments independently and under supervision.
- Ensure all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
