About the Role

Microchip's FPGA software engineering team is developing advanced Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software to empower customers to program and optimize Microchip FPGAs. The High-Level Synthesis (HLS) group is driving innovation in system-level FPGA design with their SmartHLS™ tool, enabling hardware accelerator descriptions in C/C++ to be compiled into efficient FPGA implementations. The PolarFire® System Designer provides a platform for building SoC solutions with RISC-V processors and FPGA-based hardware accelerators. This role involves compiler development using LLVM and MLIR, with opportunities to contribute to SoC design and verification.

Responsibilities

Develop, verify, and maintain advanced analysis and transformation passes for the HLS compiler to generate high-performance FPGA designs.
Optimize generated hardware architectures for power efficiency, performance, and area utilization.
Analyze customer applications to identify performance and area improvement opportunities and implement new HLS features.

Requirements

BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
7+ years of software engineering experience.
Proficiency in C/C++.
At least 2 years of hands-on experience with LLVM/MLIR.
Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
Strong background in digital design principles.
Experience working with MLIR is highly desirable.
In-depth, hands-on experience with FPGAs.
Familiarity with high-level synthesis (HLS) tools.
Knowledge of full SoC design flows, including system-level synthesis, IP integration, hardware/software co-design, and system-level verification.
Familiarity with integrating RISC-V processor subsystems, FPGA-based accelerators, and reusable IP into complete SoC platforms is highly desirable.
Proficiency with Git for source code version control.
Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or TCL.
Comfortable working on large-scale software development projects in both Linux and Windows environments.
